For the first time (in an embarrassingly long dry reading spell), I’m reading a book that I cannot put down.  I know…it’s craazy.  Patti Smith has completely drawn me into her story.  I know the book came out a while ago, but when it comes to reading, I am slow on the get-go.  It took my receiving Just Kids as a gift to actually get me to read it.  It’s the sad state of my reading affairs…consistently preferring images to words…the “visual” artist’s plight.  While I’ve a few days before I’ll actually be finished with it, what I find most shocking about the book (so far) is the mild jealousy that I feel for Patti and Robert’s unimaginably close relationship.  Their support for one another whether it be through art, money, space, work, everything…seems so untouchable…unattainable…it leaves me wanting and feeling slightly weirder than before.  In the meantime, while I seek out my Robert or Patti, I’ll just keep with the inspiring visions of Candy Darling and Jackie Curtis seated at the “round table” discussing current events.
