Truer Story: When did Valentine’s Day get so ridiculous?

Long ago, when I was a tiny kid, Valentine’s Day was awesome.  For school we would decorate our own shoe box, turning it into a mailbox that would be the recipient of lots of wonderful Valentines from our classmates.  Some of them might even be other tiny kids that we have crushes on, reading: “You’re tops with me”…(meaning that he liked me back, of course).  Or maybe there was the let down of Michael Jordan revealing his real feelings (that I was just a “champ”).  Either way, the truth always came out on Valentine’s Day.  Somewhere around Middle School it all came crashing down and fell further down into adulthood.  The takeaway? Unless you’re going to give me a Bart Simpson’s Valentines, don’t bother with the heart-shaped nonsense.
